Volunteer Opportunities
Aldersgate always has many opportunities to get involved in the life of our church family. Walk with us as we reach out as God's hands and feet in the world. As you serve, you're likely to find yourself wanting to do more and to share your experiences with others. The following list is thorough, but not exhaustive!
- Administrative -- Contact the church office (731) 427-4887
Bus Driver -- If you have a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL), you can volunteer to drive the church bus for regular Sunday morning pickups at area senior and assisted living centers. Drivers are also needed at various other times. Contact the church office if you are interested in becoming a driver.
Newsletter -- Assist with folding, sealing, labeling the weekly newsletter on Wednesday mornings at 9:00 a.m.
Offering Counters -- Assist in counting and preparing deposit of Sunday offering
- Children -- Contact Program Director, Kathy Hunter
Children's Time on Sunday Morning -- Volunteers to provide a short Children's Sermon during the Sunday morning worship service during Children's Time.
Nursery Worker Volunteer -- We need one nursery worker volunteer each Sunday. This is done on a rotating basis.
Vacation Bible School Volunteer -- During the summer we have Vacation Bible School which is usually held in the evenings. Materials will be provided and volunteers are always needed.
Sunday School Teachers -- Teachers and substitutes are always needed. Training and curriculum will be provided.
- Worship -- Contact Robin Pharis, Worship Chair or the church office
Greeter -- Greet people as they arrive on Sunday mornings. Different members of the church do this on a rotating basis.
Usher -- At sanctuary doors, welcome visitors, distribute bulletins, assist people with seating, assist with communion direction, collect offering and collect registration pads. This is done on a rotating basis.
Liturgist -- Volunteer to be a Liturgist at the Sunday morning worship service. This is done on a rotating basis.
Acolyte -- Light and extinguish chancel candles at the morning worship service. This is for children grades 3rd - 6th. Training will be provided and this is done on a rotating basis.
Sound Technician -- Operate sound equipment in sanctuary during morning worship service and also at special events such as weddings. When operating the sound system for a wedding you will receive compensation. Training is provided.
Communion Steward -- Purchase and prepare elements for communion and clean up after service.
Youth Volunteer -- Contact Abby Lackey, Youth Director or the church office
Mission Trip Volunteers -- Chaperon and participate with youth as we serve together on mission trips.
Retreat and Lock-In's -- Chaperon youth retreats and lock-in's.
Snack Food Supper -- Volunteer to provide a snack food supper for Sunday night UMYF.

Music -- Contact Ondra Farmer, Music Director
Instrumentalist -- Provide special music for worship services and special events
Adult Choir -- Our adult choir rehearses each Wednesday evening, 7:00 -- 8:00 p.m. They sing most Sunday mornings and for special events. No audition is required.
Ensembles, Handbells, Youth Choir -- Contact Music Director
